SUMMER CAMP

Our Summer Camp curriculum has been carefully developed by Erin Newton, who has been an arts educator for the Hamilton Wentworth District School Board for 20 years. Erin is a member of the Ontario College of Teachers and holds a Bachelor of Arts in Theatre, a Bachelor of Education, a Certificate in Enterprise Education, Levels 1 and 2 of Trauma-Informed Movement Practice, and an International Baccaularuete theatre certification from the International Schools Theatre Association.

Our heART camp program will create opportunities for campers to explore singing, dancing, acting, visual arts, creative writing, acting- for-film, and hand sewing! We will also have daily outdoor time at the park on our street.

The week will culminate in a film screening and gallery tour of work created thoughout the week!

  • *A non-refundable $50.00 deposit is due at registration in order to hold your place.

  • *This deposit will be applied to your summer camp fees.

    *Please provide us with notice of withdrawal before June 6th, 2025, in order to receive your deposit back.

  • *Camp fees are due on the first day of camp, Monday, July 14th, 2025

  • *Classes will be held both upstairs in Unit 11 at our BIG HEARTS little theatre studio, as well as downstairs in Unit 7 in our wonderful neighbour’s rehearsal space, Xpressions Creative Dance.

PERFORMANCE COMPANY

Our Performance Company is composed of actors and technicians who have completed an audition and been cast in our current production.

Rehearsals will be held:

Tuesdays 7:00 p.m. -  9:00 p.m

Thursdays 6:00 p.m. -  8:00 p.m

(January 7th to April 25th, 2024)

Not all members will be required at all rehearsals. A production schedule will be given upon completion of casting. Actors must attend all studio rehearsals and dress/tech rehearsals as per the production schedule. Weekly rehearsals will take place at our studio, Unit 11, 310 Limeridge Road West, Hamilton

Performances for the public will be held at the Staircase Theatre

Thursday, April 24th, 7:00pm show

Friday, April 25th 7:00pm show

Sunday, 5:00pm show and a 7:00pm show

TRAINING COMPANY

Our Training Company is composed of theatre artists, ages 14 and older who are keen to hone their craft through weekly lessons in performance technique, movement, and scene work.

Students in the Training Company are serious about their pursuit of the performing arts. They take creative risks and develop their technique through weekly lessons. At BIG HEARTS little theatre, we encourage actors to train in as diverse a skill set as possible!  Lessons are varied and include elements of Broadway styles, Tap, Scene Studies, Acting, Clown, Theatrical Genres, Script Writing and Analysis.  Placements in the Training Company are limited. Interested students should inquire early and must complete an interview process for acceptance into the program.

ACTING FUNDAMENTALS CLASSES

Our Acting Fundamentals classes are composed of young theatre artists who are keen to hone their craft through weekly lessons in performance technique, movement, characterization, and scene work.

Students in these classes are excited about furthering their skills in singing, dancing and acting. Drama warm-ups, character work, scene studies, vocal exercises, and broadway dance. This is a busy class and there is always something new to explore.

Monday Evenings

January 6th - May 12th

Intermediate Division - 6:30 - 7:30 p.m. (Ages 12-16)

This class will develop an in-studio showcase for parents and guests, to be performed at the end of the session.

YOGA CLASSES

This guided session is intended for late teens and adults. Participants will be led through gentle poses in low light, with soft music. You will leave feeling deeply relaxed, calm, and ready for a good night’s rest. This isn’t a “workout”, it’s a wind down, physically, mentally and emotionally.

Erin is a certified Hatha Yoga Instructor, having completed her 200 Hour Yoga Teacher Training and Levels 1 and 2 of Trauma Informed Movement Practice with Heal Evolve Thrive. Erin has a peaceful presence and creates a safe space for practice. The focus is on breathing, slowing down and creating peace in our hearts, minds, and bodies, which can return the nervous system to a more balanced state.

ADDITIONAL VOLUNTEER HOURS OPPORTUNITIES

Volunteer opportunities are available with BIG HEARTS little theatre. These may include ushering for BIG HEARTS little theatre performances, creating props, set and costumes, advertising, promotions, and community events, and summer camp counselling.
